Hi all,

Hope everyone is doing well.

What is the best way to clean ornaments?

Most of my ornaments have gone very green and its about time to clean or replace them.

How do people get theirs clean? Advice would be appreciated

Sanch :good:

When mine are getting a bit dirty i wait untill i do a water change, take them out and scrub them with a toothbrush (unused) in the tank water and put them back in, job done :good:

Thanks for the advice, ill try that

Anyone got any other top tips (yes I said tips :))

The same really apart from the fact that I have a nail brush set aside for it. Also I do it under the tap rather than in the bucket as I find it much easier to clean that way. There is enough beneficial bacteria elsewhere to not worry about that and I just rinse in the old tank water before I put it back in the tank.

I use a nailbrush to clean things, although i dont use ornaments in any of my tanks. It works well on the filter intake/exhaust etc

I have several brushes that I use........... got a great deal on a bag of them from my local dollar store! I find that soaking (decorations) in hot water for a few minutes also helps to loosen dirt/ algae.

Thanks for everyones ideas

Im going to doa good clean tonight so ill get scrubbing :)

i cant remember ever cleaning an ornament, that is in the tank, i guess my stock is doing it for me. the covering you can feel on these ornaments as you take them out is all part of the maturing process. removing it removes some of the buffering you tank has taken months to create. please do not take this as any implied criticism, to those who do this. just pointing out that if possible it is something to be avoided.
