I recently brought my Male Betta to work and he sits on my desk looking pretty in a nice 2.5 gallon tank.

However, I just came back today from the weekend and noticed that he has a case of fin-rot. His fins are shredded.

So I figured that the water is dirty, which is certainly was, and tried to vaccum the gravel but my vaccum is too large to deal with the small tank.

The tank is filtered and there is some java moss in it too.

How do you clean such a small tank? Its filtered so I hoped not to empty it every week but I need to get rid of his waste, its pretty nasty.

A tank that small you'll really need to empty it out wash it down and refill it once a week. It doesn't really take all that long.

buy a new 2 gal bucket, keep it just for the fish. I have one with FISH ONLY on the side. Fill with clean water and keep for 24 hours. Just pop him in something for 10 minutes whilst you clean the tank out and refill it. My tanks are smaller than that and I keep one spare with clean water in and change one betta a day.. :good:

use 2mm airline tube and tape a bluntened toothpic/cocktail stick to the ent and use the spike to stir up any crap on the bottom and the tube will syphon it off
