How long sould you leave it till you squeeze them out in a bucket of tank water? Also, do you really have to buy new ones? Someone told me that I dont have replace my biomax in my external because it only gets better and the company just say change it every month to make money. Does the same apply for Juwel sponges?

I used to do mine on a weekly basis and they were quite gunked up. New sponges you only need to buy when the old ones fall apart. Though the white filter floss I completely replaced on a weekly basis.

I replace the white floss once a week, and squeeze out one of the two sponges once a month, then the other the next month.

I used to replace the blue sponges (have to change the carbon sponge if used) but I realised what a waste of money that was. I will soon be buying the jumbo sponges so I am economising. At the last water change (last week) it was time to do the fine blue sponge and I rinsed it in tank water (as advised on here). :)

I do mine with my water changes, As for keep replacing them all the time i do think its the companies cashing in on them. The white one is the only one i replace regualary.
