Hi Guys,

After an aborted effort to get my HC to grow in bushes and spread (http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/432997-ferts-for-dwarf-baby-tears/), I've taken all the bushes out....but at least they have roots now! Before I cut them up into smaller pockets to plant deeper, I want to clean the algae off them. I have them in a 10L bucket and want to add Hydrogen Peroxide. I have food grade which I think is 32%. What concentration would be good to clean the HC, but not kill it?

Thanks!

Saw a vid on Youtube and this guy used a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide to clean the algae off his plants whilst they were still in the tank! Apparently you have to squirt the 3% solution directly on the surface of the plant you are treating before the H2O2 dissociates quickly into oxygen and hydrogen so can be safely used for spot-treating within the tank. Not sure I'd dare do it in the tank but I'd certainly give it a go outside the tank like you are proposing.

Great thanks, I've seen these 3% solutions...but I thought I might be able to make it stronger seeing as its just plants, I've not had much luck at 3% myself, its just bubbles and fizzes, but still needs to be manually removed. Perhaps I'll try a stronger solution on a small sample and see how high I can go before the HC dies off!

I suppose if it's in a bucket there's no harm trying a stronger solution as long as there're only plants at risk.

Its so ironic that I found Zebra Danio fry today in a different container holding HC snippets waiting for planting...so I'm going to wait a few days to make sure this lot is free of eggs. But I'll post my results so people can know roughly what is safe to use on stubborn algae
