Circulation And Co2

think you wouldnt have a prob moveing spraybar behind your grass flow would blow through it hows your drop checker today has it changed colour yet ?

Yup, but i have moved things from when the photo was taken. My diffuser is on the back wall, about 1/3 of the way along the tank. The power head is just about on the front glass blowing about a 1/4 of the way along at the back wall....i.e. before the CO2, and hence picks it up and throws it around.....if that makes sense?!

I have now moved the drop checker to beside the power head on the front glass to see if the CO2 is making it over there. If it is, then i think i am sorted.

That said, it seems a very inefficient way to do things, so i am off to buy a reactor and extention to my spray bar. I was going to go for the ebay linked item - the £20 job, but i am doubtful of how well that will mix, and if the bubbles are too large, i believe they will float to the top really quick. I think if i get a decent diffuser, it will 'break' the CO2 up enough so that it is more evenly distributed in the tank. I can therefore warrant keeping my spray bar at the top of the tank..... or so goes my logic! I am going to see how i get on with the reactor, and if i have blank spots even after that, i will move it to the bottom of my tank i think :)

1 diffuser will pump out the same as 2 diffusers. Positioning them in 2 different areas will only benefit if the flow is catching both of them and moving the bubbles around. If one is doing that but the other not then you would actually be worse off.

I assume above you mean external diffuser not reactor as you mention bubbles.

The £6 Boyu inline diffusers are fine. How it works is dependent really on your
filter, the hose diameter and the spraybar direction. When I used mine with a spraybar I had it pointing very slightly down. Again the same reasoning as above that the water hits water and mostly then gets pushed downward.

The only problem I can see with the Boyus are that even though they will fit all hosing from 12mm - 16mm, it will restrict the flow on the larger tubes. If the the £20 are made a little wider for 16mm than the 12mm version then that may be better. I've not tried them so can't advise on how good they are. The Boyu ones I can and with a good flow filter they are very good.

Hi folks,

Well, to help with the CO2 distribution, I got a reactor, and extended the spray bar so that it is now 3/4 of the length of the tank.

But, as predicted, the force of water out of the spray bar is reduced...... but quite a lot reduced! I am now thinking the force of the water (and CO2) wont get down to the bottom of my tank.

I have the pump (4000l/h) on the glass adjacent to the spray bar, pointing slightly down to try and encourage it.

My CO2 drop checker is at the bottom of the tank, below the pump - i.e. the area which theoretically will have the least chance of getting CO2 driven to it. It is blue.

All the grass in my aquarium is swaying due to the pump, so should i assume that means there is a good chance the CO2 is getting down there?

I am VERY weary of the CO2.... i have it on one bubble per second, but that does not seem to be enough. I previously tweeked it so it was a little bit more, and it went to pot, and i had LOADS of CO2 in the tank! I realise it will take a while to sort out, but i am scared of gassing my tank!

Why did you extend the spraybar? I would return it to it's former length and therefore restore the velocity.

1bos doesn't sound a lot to me. I used to use 2-3 on a 125 ltr. Are you using a needle valve to adjust CO2 or just the 'open/close' of the regulator?

I extended my spray bar after suggestions from a couple sources, that this will help distribute the CO2 better within the tank. I heard this was a good idea for longer tanks.

I will try upping the amount of bubbles then. I had no idea how many i should be looking at for a big tank! It is a decent regulator i have on it, so its a needle valve on that i am changing

Mmmm. Spraybars aren't my specialist subject however I would think that each is designed for the filter it runs on to give optimum performance. I would've probs put it on one of the sides if it fits rather than extend it along the back. I think there's more to circulation than just the output stretching the length of the tank though. Anyways ;) The Koralia should work fine for the circulation.
