I have been in the Cory forum asking about which cory's would go best in my tank, however the answers that kept coming back were none because I have a pair of African butterfly cichlids (Anomalochromis thomasi).

Now I know this is going to sound like a really stupid question so forgive me in advance but are they really african or is it just a name that has been given to them?

Habitat : Sierra Leone, south east Guinea och western Liberia, Africa

got to love google first hit.

They are West African cichlids (Sierra Leone and thereabouts), that's all I know, so not what people usually mean when they mention African cichlids. This means that they don't have the same specialised water requirements as the cichlids from the East.

The other problem with corys is that they cannot cope with aggression or territoriality- so somebody who knows the thomasi would need to pronounce on that. Basically, if they are at all aggressive or likely to get aggressive when they spawn, then they are not good tankmates for corys.

What are these cichlids like personality-wise?

They are inquisitive rather than aggressive. From what I know they are meant to be peacful but possibly territorial later on in life.
