cichlids questions

i was at the petstore and saw a parrto cichlid i thought it looked so cool...
i was wondering if it could go in my 10 gallon tropical community...
dont make me sound retarded but i know nothing about cichlids

Parrot fish are not true cichlids, they are a artificial geneticly made hybrid of two cichlid species that could not meet in nature let alone breed, to make this practice even worse most parrot fish are also artificially dyed. If that is not reason enough to not buy one they also grow to at least 6" and can be prone to bouts of extreem violence toward other fish when mature.

i find scare mongering about parrots terrible to tell the truth. I see it on all a lot of fish forums.

YES THEY ARE A HYBRID. as long as the people who purchase them are aware of this and understand I see no problem.

Yes some get dyed...that doesnt mean most of them are.

I used to be totally against the sale of hybrids untill my misses wanted parrots. (it was a condition of getting a new tank)
So i take care of my parrots like i would any other fish. Now i find them truely fascinating, a joy to keep and huge personalities. I find there is so much false imformation about parrots on the net and these 'myths' are totally untrue, and are usually started by people who are against hybrid fish who have no experience with them..

Dont believe everything you read on forums about blood parrots.

it was like bright bright red didnt seem like it was dyed to me
they had ones that looked like they were dyed for 14.99 in a diff tank
but the red ones were 24.99
