Is it possible for my African Cichlids to change colour, I recently brought two beige coloured, peabody shaped cichlids and this morning one of them has turned black :/

Any ideas why??

Cheers

Pretty much all the African's do that for a variety of reasons, the common ones though are aggression, stress and breeding.

For example dominant males will display their full colouration pretty much all the time where as sub-dominant fish will go very pale when in close proximity to the alpha male.

Like stated above about breeding is most likely the reason. An over abundense in stress can bring it to change also!

IME some juveniles can change color almost at will. My m. callainos seem to change color when its feeding time, during the day, to a different color in the evening. And of course when around a dominant male. The aceis did that a lot to, until they got bigger. Go figure.

One of my johannis changes color almost in front of your eyes it seems... when the bigger johanni chases it, it seems to lose color, but again that would be from stress.
