Hi,
My new 600 gallon pond is now finally established, and I was wondering if koi and cichlids can go together? I know your asking yourselfs "Isnt it to cold for cichlids in a pond?", but I live in Florida, so its warm enough.

I have no experience raising koi and cichlids together, but I would hazard a guess that your cichlids could harass your koi to high heaven, possibly resulting in their untimely deaths. :/

I've seen a frontosa and koi pond on the net before, but, why would you want to do it? It seems insane, they're 2 different species from 2 totally different parts of the world. I'm quite sure the koi must take a bit of a beating as well.

you could get a thin divider.that would work.cichlids on one side koi on the other.you would have to keep the koi in some pails for a few dsays and change the water constantly to flush their systems of disease

Whats the fun at looking at cichlids from the top?? I think you can really only appreciate them while looking at from the tank.. the pond would need to have caves and such i dont think it would be a very good pond fish.. I think they would rip up your Koi and even if they didnt i dont see a point in keeping them in a pond.

Well, I don't think it would be a good idea to combine Koi and Cichlids. I do have to disagree with the statement that Cichlids aren't good candidates for ponds. I know a few keepers here in Michigan that use summer ponds for grow out. You get about 2x the growth rate in a pond. Not to mention spawning. There is alot more to fish keeping that aesthetics.
