Hi all,

I was almost in tears this morning when I came down to breakfast to find that the "holding" yellow Lab I'd been keeping in a small holding tank had died. It had been there for almost three weeks. Another holding lab that I couldn't catch and isstill in the main tank is OK. It's still stubbornly holding as well.

No idea what happened to the mother that's died. I did a water change yesterday though, but nothing out of the ordinary. I guess that's the only alteration that's occurred, even though I can't see what went wrong. She's released the fry, either after dying or just before and I've got about 10.

It's really really sad, but I suppose there are new fish to be looked after now and then given away so it's a kind of sad and happy story.....

Irf.

so sorry to read about your yellow lab mother, you must be feeling really sad and shocked. hope the babies survive and thrive and your other mother is ok.

I've never understood crying over a fish, to each his/her own though...

How big was the tank she was in and how often did you do w/c's?
I've always enticed the holding fems with food @ the beginning of week 3 so they'll spit and eat. then scooped them out before they can suck up the fry again. works every time! :good:

Well I was very, very sad when I lost most of my cichlids to a tank disaster, so I understand how you feel.

sorry about ur loss. i know just what your feeling. i had the exact thing happen. my kenyi was holding. lost her color got ich and spit the babies. my whole tank died off and i had a tank full of kenyi cichlids until my heater went out then those got ich and now ive moved on and been good for over a year now! congrats on the babies
