what can I do to get rid of some of the algae growing on the rocks.

Can any algae eater live with Convicts or other New world Cichlids. I'm also considering a tank with other New world Cichlids but I'm concerned about the alage problem.

i think that a pleco would eat the algae, but common plecos get really big and produce alot of waste. what tank would you need it in?

If you are breeding them and im assuming you are from you Sig, then i wouldn't advise anything with them. You can deal with the algae by useing the light less often and i usually remove any when i do a water change. If you have live plants in there then i would set a timer for my lights to turn on in the AM...shut off after 4 hours....a dark period for 2-3 and then on again for a remaining 5-6 hours...it doesnt hurt plants, but it stunts the growth of algae. The timer was about $25can (expensive because its digital and i can run all my tanks on one). HIH :)
