Christmas Day

So, who's doing what on the big day?
 
On Christmas Day, the wife, kids and I shall be spending a lovely day with my lovely in-laws (no, genuinely, they are lovely people). On Boxing Day, the wife, kids and I shall be spending a lovely day with my lovely parents.

Which equates to 2 dirty great big roast dinners, with NO preparing, cooking or washing up. Can't ask for better than that.

I'll be spending the day with my mum and siblings We recently moved and so have more room to enjoy the day... And the dinner that goes with it. Pretty sure we're having Goose for dinner rather than Turkey this year

We used to alternate; one year at my mum's and the next at mine, so we each got a chance to have a rest from the cooking

 
Recently though, we've 'adopted' one of my late grandmother's friends, as she doesn't have any family, and she's too elderly to manage the steps outside my house, so we've been going to my mum's for the last few years (we all chip in to help with the cooking mind you!).
 
We have a big get together of everyone we can rope in on Christmas Eve as well, so we get to see everyone who's having their Christmas day elsewhere

And everyone wants to see my daughter, especially, as it's her birthday on Christmas day

Going to go to my parents in Scotland for Christmas, (is only a 8 hour drive!)

Think will probably be pheasant for the Christmas Meal this year, can't wait!

We pretty much stopped celebrating Xmas a number of years ago. therewere no chcildren around the household, There was a lot of work and money spent for no real good reason any more. most of the family has anything they want that isn't really pricey. And i am not asking people for a car or house for Xmas. So we all save a lot of money not exchanging gifts any more.
 
We do have a nice Xmas day meal is about it. We have not had a tree in years either.
 
Christmas is mostly a holiday for children and retailers. For some it may be a religious event as well. But for many Americans, at least, it mostly has become a commercial event. Here is my idea of what I would love to be able to do for the holiday season.:

I'm going to my daughter & son in laws for Christmas, his parents are also going.
We all get along really well so it will be fun especially as it's their first Christmas in their new house & they have room for us all.
Son in law is cooking, it'll be turkey with all the trimmings, he does a really nice Christmas dinner

Goose is no more 

than any other kind of poultry!
 
It is quite fatty, so you have to roast it properly so the fat comes out (you can save it; it makes the best roast potatoes ever). It's a very rich meat, so one goose serves more people than a turkey or chicken, of the same size, would

 
Goose was the traditional Christmas dinner in the UK until the 1950s when the turkey took over; mostly because you can't intensively farm geese as you can a lot of other poultry; they just die (well done the goose

) and turkeys are bigger.

The fun and festivities begins on Christmas Eve, where we all go to the Candlelight Service and worship and sing and fellowship together with our congregation.
 
Then, its home to get our son to bed, and place the presents under the tree.  My wife grabs a few snapshots of the 'pile' before heading off to sleep.  Then, whenever the dawn breaks and he wakes up, its a morning of coffee, cinnamon rolls and watching my son slowly unwrap each present.  He's always been slow about opening the presents - I guess because he's an only child.  He's going to have a great morning, and my wife will have a surprise this year as well.   (Finally, got her a replacement wedding ring for the one she lost about 8 years ago.)
 
 
Then, around 2 pm or so, we will head over to my in-laws and celebrate with them and have a nice meal.  My son will play with his cousin and pretty much ignore the rest of the family but its a nice time to catch up, relax and spend time together.
 
 
Then, I think the 28th this year, we'll be getting together with my family (My brother is a corrections officer, so we try to work around his work schedule - prisoners need to be cared for on Christmas too, ya know!).  We'll head over to his place, and meet with my parents and my sister's family as well.
 
 
Somewhere during that time, we'll head over to Hershey Park for their Christmas displays, probably head into Philadelphia for the local flavor as well - Macy's (formerly John Wanamaker's) puts on a holiday show.  They also have "A Christmas Carol" display that is a 'can't miss', in my opinion.  We'll head over to Reading Terminal Market, see the PA Train museum's Christmas Display, and then we might head over to the "Please Touch Museum" to see the old Litt Brother's "Enchanted Village".
