Hi,
I was given a tiny fish tank by my grandparents as I've wanted to keep fish for a while, but I soon purchased a 105 litre tank (<-- link) shortly after which I've had a few months now and keep rosie tetra's, cardinal tetra's & black widow tetra's in the tank.

I've eventually managed to resolve ammonia issues and green tank issues but now I'm struggling with the water temperature. I was initially only using the heater that came with the fish tank but it was holding the temperature at between 20°C-22°C (it wasnt adjustable) so I put another heater in the tank which is meant for a 60L tank, but I figured having the two would work. However, every time I check, the tank is 23°C (yes, I have used different thermometers). But I have been told to keep the water temperature between 24°C - 28°C.

I dont just want to buy any heater off the internet to find it doesnt work very well, so I'm hoping someone can recommend one for my sized tank.

Any help would be appreciated.

Dan

I like Eheim heaters. I have one in my main tank.

The vast majority of adjustable heaters are not well calibrated - the number on the dial isn't the temperature they heat the water to. Some heaters have to be set at a higher number on the dial, others at a lower number on the dial to get the water temperature right. It's just trial and error. Have you tried altering the setting on the second heater?

Thank you.

I have the filter at the back left of the tank with the heaters at the back right. Is there any "correct" location to put the heater or does it not really matter?

I've seen THESE on the likes of Amazon. I really am clueless, is there any benefit to those over the Eheim ones? The second heater I put in the tank is a Eheim, but only meant for 60L tanks, So I have the heater that came with the tank + the Eheim for 60L tanks. Which I thought would give it a boost.

I've not used anything like the heater in your link, so I'll leave that to members who have used them.

The usual guidline is to place the heater such that the water coming out of the filter flows past it so that the heated water is moved away from the heater and round the tank. If it's at a distance from the filter outflow, the water round the heater may not be moving much, if at all, so the water immediately around the heater will get warm and the thermostat will switch the heater off, leaving the water in the other parts of the tank cooler.

Thank you.
