We have hard water here and often a lot of chlorine in it ( you can smell it somedays). Because of the location of the tank, in a wall with reduced access, the only way we can sensibly replace the water durring a water change is with a hose from the tap. We always add the chlorine inhibitor afterwards. But I was thinking the otherday that the chlorine could get sucked into the external filter and harm the bacteria that we have spent weeks lovingly building up.
I thought that it would be much better to fill the tank durring these water changes with de-chlorinated water using an in-line de-chlorinator.
Has anyone had any experience of these? and / or got any recommendations?
Or am I just worrying unnessasarly? we always seem to get a small spike of nitrite for a couple of days after a water change ( the tap water tests 0 for nitrites )
Thanks
