I have a chinese algae eater with 4 neon tetras and 3 cardinal tetras. They seem to shoal together so that is good news. I also have a dwarf gourami. They are all in the same 10 gallon tank. What I'm asking is that will the algae eater be aggressive to my tetras? And if there is a lot of algae, will it overeat and die?

The thing with algae eaters is they start off small an are very nicely tempered however from what I've heard once they get bigger ( and the do get big) they begin to be quite aggressive to other fish especially gouramis by sucking the scales off their sides. Having said this tough I have a Chinese algae eater who is large, in large tank ( probe around 120 gallons

Get rid of the CAE:

Yeah, I agree with tenohfive, get rid of it. They're one of the very few fish that I actually actively dislike; I've known loads of people have terrible problems with the little b******s.

Ugh! My mom won't let me get rid of it even after I showed her the info here. What should I do now?

Wait until your other fish get ripped apart, then tell your Mum that you told her so.

Unfortunately that's all you can do - why won't she take it back? Most LFS' will take fish back for credit, and you can get something more suitable.

I have had to move mine as it was starting to harrass one of my Firemouths. Wish i had never bought him but he has only just started being like this after about 6 months.
