What are they for?

Temperature control. They...wait for it... chill the water. (ok, I'll stop being sarcastic). Just like a heater, they are for temperature control. If your house gets hot, they can be used. I've seen them more commonly used in marine setups than FW, but they aren't marine only.

THey also tend to be for more larger setups or commercial sized aquariums rather than for small home aquariums. I've never seena chiller meant for anything less than 100 gallons or so.

okay I was just shopping online and seen them .. No diea what they were for.. Thanks.. lol...
