My son has a 24x12x12 tank and has asked whether he can have cherry shrimps ad neons in the same tank. I was thinking bout 10 neons but if he can have cherry shrimps how many could he keep in what is a small tank?

The tank is full of bogwood and plants

would the cherry shrimp be able to breed with neons in there?

i shouldnt see why not, the shrimps are a similar size to a neon when fully grown, my guess is that they would eat any really young shrimp but would leave the older ones alone.
there are loys of people on here selling shrimps at the minute, why not just buy 2/3 cheapies to give it a trial..... :good:

cheers I;ve kept cherries once before just with plecs how many can/should you keep in a tank that size do yo think?

hi simonas as far as i know they have very little bio load so its poss you could keep a good colony in there
you aint to far from me i could give you some in a few weeks if ya like just pm me
scot :)

they do seem to poo quite alot but have a minimal effect on the bioload, i had about 50/60 in a fully stocked tank not so long ago and it didnt show in any water tests.... then i got some angels and all but a few dissappeared over night!!!!!!!!!
i would go with about 20 or so as just a couple looks kind of useless imo, a nice group of them looks great on a bit of java moss. they will breed though and you may get free live food for the neons when they are at the small stage so bonus :good:

the tanks empty now bar the coral sand left over from the marine set up

would the coral sand make the water ph too high and hard for cherry shrimp?
