Hello

I currently have a cycled 10 gallon tank with a male dwarf gourami and 2 ghost shrimp. They have been in there for about a week and they seem to be doing great, and the water tests fine all around. So I have been looking for a small schooling fish to add to the tank and I am thinking about some Cherry Barbs. Would these be too big to have 4-5? If so what other options do i have besides guppies and rasboras? Thanks

yes 1 may be too many as it has the potential to harrass the gourami and the cherry is a schooling fish thus that is another incompatability for your tank. I would stick to smaller schooling fish

Well if you judge by inches of fish it would start to be tight. Because your gourami would get about 3-5inches. You could maybe get like 3cherry barbs in there I would say. But i'd be careful as they might want to go after your gourami.

I have two Gouramis and Cherry Barbs (10) together, as long as they have enough space they should be fine as mine have never had problems, reducing the number may be a good idea to get around that problem.

Hehe, took you guys a while to respond! Well I got 3 cherry barbs in there about 4 weeks ago and they are doing fine in there. The only one that is aggressive is my male cherry, but he never bothers the Gourami. And I definitely agree that these fish are more like loaners. The females sometimes hang out together eating stuff off the bottom, and the male is always cruising around in the plants by himself. He only likes the females when it is time to spawn. :shifty:

Do you want the fry to survive? If so I'd suggest setting up a small tank or something.

Edit: I have a betta, 3 corys, and 2 minnow in a 10 gal. They're doing ok but maintanence is hell! they're all ok though.Had a ghost shrimp but Tatsu, my betta, wanted an inbetween feeding snack...

:rip: casper

yeah I am actually getting a 55 gal. today, and I'll be using my current 10 raise fry in. The barbs havent spawned in a few weeks, but they really went at it the day after I brought them home. None of the eggs hatched, and most of them were eaten by the females before they could be hidden in the java fern roots. I might actually get rid of the fish I have now so I can make the 55 gallon a dwarf cichlid tank, so if anyone wants some free fish in my are let me know :good:

Oh yeah i had a couple ghost shrimp too, but I had some trouble keeping them in the tank. One got inside my filter the first day, and then I lost them both eventually. It's gonna be weird to find their bodies when i clean my room.
