Checkerboard Cichlid - Darkened Colours And Lethargy

One of my male checkerboards has been sitting in the same spot on some leaves on a plant in my tank for about the last week or so and his colours are generally darker, he moves around a little during feeding and seems to eat ok. Can anyone offer any ideas as to what this may be?

What other fish are there in the tank? What are your water stats? How long have you had him?

0 Ammonnia , 0 Nitrites , 10< Nitrates, had him 6 months, Tank-mates are Gold Tetras , Honey Gourani, 3 other checkerboards, I've not noticed any difference in the behaviours of the other checkerboards or any agression between them except very occaisonal chasing.
