I'd do it for any of my bettas, but they're a LOT smaller than an oscar.. I already had to trim one of my betta's tails [with advice from betta forum, of course] because it was starting to get infected from chewing it off daily.. I did the super-clean water treatment and everything for a week and it still didn't get better, so I dared to trim it. Scary. Very scary. But his tail's almost completely grown back now, and he's happily building bubblenests.
I'm sure I'd do it for my oscar once he's adult... right now I don't feel I'm strongly bonded to him enough to pay that much, but once I've had him longer.... well, I pamper my pets, what can I say?
Well, I spent roughly $30 on meds for one of my lyretail swordies (she only cost $2.50 originally), but I doubt I'd spend that much money on one of them.
