Does anyone know where I can purchase a cheap Lilly pipe to replace my external filter outlet! although ive positioned it low in the tank the high turnover rate is effecting the direction my plants aare growing in! Sureley someone makes a cheaper version of the ADA one which is great but way toooooo expensive. any ideas? or have you a DIY one?

Thanks

The same place (aquaessentials.co.uk) do a glass lily pipe by aquili for about £65 (so a bit cheaper than ADA) but I dont know of anything in the middle ground !

Top end, glass or budget, plastic seem to be the only options ! :(

I've been looking for something similar myself

A lily pipe replaces the regular spray bar or simple nozzle filter outlet. It is moves the water around the tank more effectively providing a moderate water flow even with filters with high flow rates. It is also designed to move the water around the tank minimising potential dead spots.

Due to its design, with high filter flow rates it allows excellent water circulation with minimal turbulence preventing the plants being "blown" about.

I would only recommend them in a tank that has a filter with a high flow rate otherwise overall tank circulation would be compromised.

Check out Craynerd's journal for more details.

Ive just had a quick (also potentially very stupid) thought about the lilly pipes and was thinking(i know it can be dangerous to think sometimes) that you could make a DIY lilly pipe out of an ordinary kitchen funnel. Any ideas?

I would have thought so. To be honest, if you watch the video you will see that the shape is very important to its function. Would a cheaper plastic copy be exactly the same shape....i don`t know? Have they even just copied it for the sake of the market without thinking enough about design?

I personally would say it will work well, but obviously you get what you paid for. The ADA lily pipes are hand blown glass, look perfect and work perfect...hence their £80 price tag!

Sounds like a description of a fine piece of jewellery than say "filter output". You make an excellent ADA marketing man...

...but I suppose if you can afford it

...personally that's two weeks food money for me =]

...or half a zebra plec

Watched the vid which is why im asking Lol. Can afford the £80 price tag but more than willing to shell out £7

Just what im after since I will be planting a 5ft tank up in the next month hopefully.

My spray bars do the job but clog up easily :(

p.s

Will the JBL fit onto most external filters tubing or wil I have to buy some connectors etc ...

WHOA!!! Videos now!!! lol. Thanks all for your input. Im seriously tempted te treat myself to the ADA lilly pipe but can I justify the cost? am a little concerned though about the increase in flow due to the suction created at the top of the Lilly pipe, In my instance I really want to reduce the force of that flow, do you think this will happen? Im sure I could make one but as said before 'it aint gonna be pretty!' if I go for the ADA pipe am definatley gonna have to burn the reciept or the wife will hang me!
