Just purchased a 2nd hand 175 liter Aqua One UFO corner tank which hasn't come with a filter. These tanks are the sort where the system is built into the hood so needs a specific filter to the range, now I have three options.

1) Use the filter i have for my current tank which is a slightly smaller, 90 liter Aqua One UFO corner tank, model of the one i just purchased which filters 750 lph.
2) Buy a new filter specific to the exact model of tank, cheapest price I've found is £30 and filters 1000 lph.
3) Buy an external filter.

Now option 1 and 3 are my preferred option, I'm going to sell the smaller tank as a complete so I'd end up buying the smaller model of filter for about £20 and stick that in my new tank if has enough filtration, i see people say it should filter around 4x the total volume, so this is pretty much dead on 4x. However, I did think about possibly spending a little more on a much bette external filter, thinking around the £60 mark. So my question is is there a site with cheap filters and is their a specific external filter that's relatively cheap that someone would recommend?

Thanks in advance

I would choose option 3... i would also try my very, very hardest to stretch the pennys and get something worthwhile for your tank, remembering it is 170L and a pretty big tank that will need an external.
Have a look at this----> http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fluval-External-Aquarium-Fish-Filter/dp/B005QRDDM4/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1348183398&sr=8-8 ......the Fluval range. It may be possible to find one alot cheaper second hand, my 205 was a great find!

I'm a big fan of the externals from All Pond Solutions.

The flow does drop considerably from the stated once they've got media in, but the size more than makes up for that, IMO.

It's also true that the build isn't the strongest, but if you treat them gently you shouldn't have a problem.

I run the 2000lph model on a 180l tank and it does it very well.
