Howdy!

I'm completely hacked off with my Aqua One CF1000, generally flow-less and noisy despite an impeller change and bio-ball securing session!

Im looking to buy a new filter, probably a Tetratec EX1200 (130l tank)

My tank is mature, how do i go about setting up the new media for swapping out the filters?

Cheers for any pointers

If you can, swap over all of the current media from your "noisy" filter and put it in your new filter, along with other media you can get in there. The important thing is though, to get all the media you have now, and put it into your new filter.

FHM,

Do you think im being paranoid about the "noise" of my filter?

Id hate to waste money on a new one. Its a grinding sound coming from the head, ive gone to town today and cleaned everything, Using flexible bottle cleaners in inlets/outlets and in the impeller housing. Using your guide, cleaned media and casing. Ive lubed o rings and removed air from the system.

maybe i should give it some time and see if it changes....

Gah, i hate inexperience!

Well, my power filter really makes no/little noise at all, besides a little humming sound and water flowing through it... and maybe a piece of sand that gets stuck down near the impeller shaft every now and then and makes an annoying sound, but that seems to always go away.

I would go out, buy a new filter and try it out. If you like it, since that is what matters, then by all means you should buy it. Besides, fish keeping is suppose to be fun, and a noisy filter is not fun, IMO.
