Changing From One Filter To Another...

What are the benefits of running two filters together until the new one gets established, say compared to putting all the "old" filter media straight into the "new" filter (carefully of course!!), as I would like to save money on buying new filter media unnecessarily.

benefits well other than the increased aeration then none really

Why not put some of the media from the established filter in to the new one?
