Changing Filter

I got my tank as a set and it has a top filter that is LOUD!  My tank is still cycling but I was thinking it would be better to change it out now?  What do I do with the filter media from the one I already am running?  I was looking at the Eheim canister filter.

Put all the media from the filter currently cycling into the new one. If necessary, cut up sponges to make them fit. As an external has several baskets, put some media into each of them then fill up with new media. Then carry on cycling.
 
If you are quick and don't let the media dry out during the swap you shouldn't lose many bacteria. The cycle might take a bit longer that's all.
