Changing Direction Marine -> Tropical

hello,

Ive kept a reef now for the last 18months but at the moment work and social commitments are preventing me for looking after the reef as much as i like.So i think the times come to move back to tropical.

Ive a few questions to see what kit i can keep and what i want to sell. With electricity been so expensive still i want to remove the sump from the system. I will leave it under the tank but i dont plan on using it.

1) The tank in question is a 5*2*2(ft). So which external canisters will be able to cope with a system this big?
2) I have two tunze streams 6080(8,500Lph) a) are these suitable for fresh water? b) would i really need 2 of these
3) i have a deltec mega twin light, is T5 10k ok for fresh water?

4) any surgestions on stock? Never had a tropical tank this big so not sure what new avenues this will open up for me.

FX5 would be good on that for heavy stocking or messy fish, you may get away with a teteratec ex1200, or 2 of them for heavy stocking.. i would go with the FX5 tho as so many have good stuff to say about them.


i can recommend ocsars

cant help with the lighting or tunze as no idea on either, but good luck hope it turns out fab for you

edited to add.. i just remebered that tetratec have recently added a huge filter to there range ex2400 i think it is.. i have had tetratec on my oscar tanks and rate them very very highly, also excellent warranty back up and customer sevice from the company think they come in cheaper than the fluval, not sure about the price comparison on an FX5 and an EX2400 tho, bet there is only a few quid in it

no they are not community, they would eat everything, can be kept with other larger fish tho, silver dollars,plecs.... thers a few,, tho they are beautiful fish that can reach a grand size of 12 inches in a tank

loads of pics in there and graet advice... beware of the other oscars owners tho theyre all a bit mad they are big messy fish, but can be compared to labrador dogs big softies
also to add that they can live up to 10 yrs, so you need to be certain its the right fish for you

i like my clown loaches, plecs and cat fish so might not be the best choice!

tempted by Malawi cichlids aswell just not 100% yet what i fancy

That pump does sound good. Just wondering how noisy it is.

i think a clown loach tank would be nice

not sure on powerheads tbh, you could direct them to add a little xtra flow towards the filter poo collector, or somewhere where is is easy to collect etc

not 100% though!

Maybe 4-5 clowns would be pretty cool. I think one stream adding 8500 flow isnt going to be a bad thing really!

i think two would be slighly over powering really. I think selling my skimmer alone will cover the cost for the external filter which is good though
