I purchased an extremely small female betta about 3 weeks ago. I assumed she was small anyway - I have never had a female before and only had internet pictures to compare her too. She is so tiny I have to crush up her baby sized pellets.

She was always pale bodied and plain, with a very slight teal on the end of her fins. Today I looked at her and she has red coming in. Her gills are red, her fins are red (except where the teal is), her body is turning more pinkish, and I am not sure what to call them, but her long and dangly "fins" in the very front are also pure red now.

At what age do betta's get their final colors like this? I am kind of excited because I have no idea how old any of my betta's are, so at least with her I could give an estimation.

Well u must be doing a very good job of taking care of

Once a female doesnt feel threaten it will release her real colors... :)

Thank you! I was really hoping it had to do with her age, but this makes me feel good too.

My "near black" female turned out to be a deep shade of blue and red once she got acclimated to her new surroundings. I was slightly disappointed to see she's not black but her colors are still rich and dark, and she's quite healthy. You'll notice a lot of Bettas actually are a different shade or even color than when you buy them originally. Most of mine have either darkened or lightened their colors once they felt safe and comfortable.
