hi ok ive changed my mind about haveing american cichlids. so now i want to go the african's way.
my tank size is 5' x2' x2'

a few questions.

1) what kind of rock is best for them?
2) will bristlenose and royal pleco be ok with africans?
3) i no sand is best for them... is play sand from argos ok?
4) do they eat guppy's and platys. as i'm breeding them to give to them...

and last question...

i want yellow labs.

how meny should i get 1m - 3f or 2m - 4f?

could you also give me a list what fish will go with yellow labs..

thanks

I use granite, but I would recommend reef bones as best.

Depends on what else you keep. Bristlenoses usually do ok

I use aquarium sand, so I imagine play sand will be fine.

Err, why? What do you want to do that for? Even if it wasn't for the Rift Lake cichlids' diets, that would still be a silly idea because of the potential for disease transfer and that live fish provide an inappropriate diet for most fish.

But to answer the question: most Rift Lake cichlids do best with a predominantly or completely vegetarian diet.

I keep 1m 2-3f.. they will breed out of control (I have 15 fry born per month which survive to adulthood), so it may be best to keep only females, unless you do want the tank to be predominately yellow.

ok thanks but what other cichlids can go with labs?
