Change Of Substrate

Today i went out and got a bag of sand from argos and have given it a good clean.What would be the best course of action of putting the sand in as my tank is cycling.I have taken the gravel,ornaments and plastic plants out and wash them as they were covered in algae and wont be putting anything back in until the cycle is done apart from the sand which i want settled before i go get fish

Well seeing as you have no fish in at the mo just plonk the sand in... just turn the filter off till the sand settles... shouldnt take long

I changed mine, mid cycle on Sunday. I filled two buckets with tank water and put my ornamnents, plants, filter straight in them. I then did a 90% water change leaving a tiny bit of crap at the bottom (wasn't sure if it was bacteria or crap lol) and put new gravel in. My cycle wasn't affected at all except that the the first lot of ammonia added took about an hr longer to process.
