at the moment i have my tank (aqua one 100 something) set up with some malawi ciclids in it and it is very nice, but after a year of watching them kick the living proverbial out of each other, and am now thinking that perhaps it would be better to have maybe 1 big fish or something along those lines and was wondering what you would reccomend?
tank dimensions
Volume in litres: 244
Volume in imperial gallons: 53.679463
Volume in US gallons: 64.464995
40cm w
100cm l
61cm h

would the tank be too small to house an oscar? just reading some stuff on them and they seem to be popular and have a good personality

its only too small if you dont have plans for a larger tank. oscars get really big really fast. they grow up to 30cm in their first year. so for a full grown oscar you'd need a tank thats atleast 120x45x45. these aren't exact measurements and i'm not too good with metric, but this is just about right. for any large fish, it needs 4 times its body length in the length of the tank, 1.5 times its length in the depth and the width.
i hope this helps you. its just a shame to see a big fish in something too small.
but if you do have plans within the next two years to upgrade to a larger tank, then a single oscar with some other non-intrusive fish will be fine.
how does this sound to you:
one oscar
three silver dollars
one sailfin plec
