Hi
i have decided to do a 150l planted tank and in some pictures online i saw the tanks had small fish like tetras and a few larger fish like discus and gouramis. I would like to replicate this in my tank but i cant afford discus and gouramis get quite big so i was wondering what fish could i keep. my suggestions would be platys or swordtail. Is there any other fish as i am not fond of livebrearers

if you were thinking of adding discus, but think angelfish get too big then your wrong on the size that discus get. they are very finicky fish and when going towards them you might as well set up a salt water tank because of the pricing and maintenance that needs to be done.
i would say that a nice angel would be great.
or a school of marble hatchet fish
or a pair of electric blue rams.

What are the dimensions of the tank? Angels may eat extremely small tetra like neons but there are plenty of tetra species large enough to hang OK with them. 150L may be a bit small for angels though, you could do dwarf gouramis or a small cichlid species as a centerpiece. And for a small.schooling fish you could have a group of cardinal tetras or harlequin rasboras. You could have a group of cories, if you have 6+ of the same species they actually school really well.
It all depends on what you like, you could do a themed tank, Asian with a dwarf gourami centerpiece, or south American with some Apistos or rams, central American with sword tails as a centerpiece.
If you could name a few fish you are interested in it would narrow the list a lot.

honey gouramis and oaplines to name a few but i would reccomend honeys as there non agressive and only grow around one and a half inches.

I think the electric blue rams look wonderful. 120L is probably just about their min tank size, though. Some corys should be in there somewhere, they're a must (in my opinion)...panda corys are especially nice.

I like the sound of rams as i have never kept them before and know i want to.Also will the honey gouramis fight with each other.
Would i be able to keep some Pakistani loach in the tank if i had gouramis

Honey gouramis aren't really that aggressive and should do fine with most community fish, Pakistani loaches included. You could add rasboras as the shoaling fish and do a southeast Asian biotope.

what i was thing was 6 each of harlequin rasbora, rummy nose and black neon tetra and 4 Pakistani loach and 4 honey gourami.
Is this overstocked?

Also can i keep corys with Pakistani loach or will the loach will eat the corys eyes.

technically no i would take out one of the schools and maybe uo the number on the others, as for the loaches and cories i think it should be one or the other. male honey gouramis are terrotorial so if you plan to keep four males you can only keep two in that tank.

How about this?

10x Back Neons OR Rummy Nose OR Harlequin Rasbora.
4x Honey Gourami - They aren't aggressive but I'd say 1 male and 3 females just in case he wants to breed.
6x Pakistani Loaches OR 8x Corydoras Panda
2x German Blue Rams(Normal, Electric Blue or Gold) - Male and Female.

Sound good? Not overstocked either :)

Thanks for the replys i cant say exactly what i am going to get but i know how many of what i should keep. Also paradise3 i will keep your suggestion in mind as it seems good
