Why not colorful, smaller fish like galaxy rasboras? Most "big fish" won't live happily in a tank that size. 10 gallons, maybe.

Well not glaxy rasboras particularly unless you want to breed them , they are endangered, maybe harlequin rasboras.
For a centre piece idea, try a gourami, thooough dwarf gourami IMO is weaker, gofor honey's as mentioned above
if u want rasboras , try spotted rasboras.
