at this moment in time, i have a 55gal planted column tank. the contents include...
6 neons
6 glolights
7 harliquin rasboras
6 corys
4 black phantom tetras
3 khuli loaches
11 ghost shrimp
4 mystery snails

i was wondering what would make a good centerpiece for this tank. ive considered rams, and maybe even discus. it just looks kinda empty right now. any comments or suggestions are welcome! thanks.

a pair of blue rams? a pair/trio of an apistogramma sp. ? discus arent really suitable as you need to keep at least 5 together and 55g isnt enough for that many discus (IIRD :S)

Maybe Bolivian Rams. I've got 3 that are great, with lots of personality. Not as colorful as the blue rams, but they have great color, and are a bit more tolerant with water quality.

What do you mean by column tank? Most cichlids require more floor space than anything so keep that in mind.

Discus aren't suitable as already stated due to the tank size and stocking.

my tank has a more squarish shape to its base, and its taller.

i think im gonna either get a blue or gold ram. im not sure yet though.

any other colourful dwarf chiclids out there?

You dont HAVE to have a Dwarf Cichlid, there are many other community fish that would go well and are very pretty, take a look at the Indian Gourami. Its a type of fish that would suit your style of tank (vertical) better than any cichlid would.

I am going to get a pair of blue rams and bolivian butterfly rams this weekend I can't wait :hyper: Blue rams are so beautifully colourful I'd suggest either blue rams or bolivian's
