Hi all
I purchased 16 of the pearl danios a few weeks ago. Since then I have lost about 6 of them then yesterday I noticed something wrong with one of the males. I thought his mouth was constantly open however upon closer inspection the top half of his mouth has gone!!! I don't know how this has happened. I have read that a dominant male will attack all other males until the die (I wasn't aware of this when I purchased them) I'm not now sure what I should do?? Can he eat, will he be able to live like this? He is swimming around in the isolation tank fine but I haven't seen him eat anything yet.

I have Cpd's, a mix of males & females & have never seen any aggression between them.
What other fish if any do you have with them?

Hello, I also have a group of CPD in my tank and whilst the males do have the odd circle round each other they never cause any damage so I would suspect your fish may either be ill or have been injured as a result of something else. I may be wrong but IME male CPD's will not cause damage to each other.

What other fish do you have in your tank? and what size is the tank ect? has it been cycled? and what are the water stats?

I've never actually seen any of them attack each other. I have a very peaceful tank which has a lot of babies in and juniors.I have harlequin rasboras, 4 5 month old mollies and male and female guppies ranging from fry to around 8 month. I have about 6 adult guppies 4 female and 2 male, the four female are all pregnant. Last but not least I have 2. Bristle nose plecs.
My latest water tests are all spot on so I know it's nothing to do with that. Apart from having the top half of his mouth missing he seems fine and so do the rest of my fish. I have lots of fake plants in my tank, a boat and anchor ornament and a couple of fish ones

I would suspect a bacterial disease personally! One spread by contact which would explain why its spread just within the species group.

I would treat the tank...

16 in one hit? Bet that was expensive :D Mine are just hitting maturity now, about an inch long. The two males display a lot, but I've never had any aggression like that.

I also read that the dominant male would attack all the other males.
But, agree with above posts. I've only experienced displays and chasing so far.

we had 6 zebra danios (mix of male younger and female) and we got 3 leopard danios a few weeks later as i read they would be ok and all swim together.
we must of got an adult male leopard and 2 females,as soon as the leopards got in the tank, the male fin nipped and bullied the two smaller male zebra danios to death in the space of a day,he has not bothered nipping with the bigger danios that remain.

Think we just got a bully,as i cannot find anything about this behavior anywhere online!
