Hello all, I am new to this forum and would like a bit of help on a catfish ID.

I am possibly picking up a 2nd hand tank tonight for my coldwater fish. The tank at the moment is tropical and it comes complete with a catfish. I have asked the owner to describe it and the description was I quote

"about the size of a pen maybe a bit smaller and is orange and white and black spotty looking pointy nose"

i am going to put it in my hospital tank with the filter the tank comes with (should be mature ) and some substrate and monitor him before putting him in my tropical tank, but can anyone hazard a guess at what type he is? Maybe a panaque but i am not so familiar with catfish.

Thanks Chris

any chance of a picture for a positive ID.

:good:
Unfortunately that is the only description i have. I know its a bit of a long shot. I will try and get a picture if i get the tank.

Thanks

Some sort of L number perhaps, but without a picture, theres not a lot of a chance of a proper ID. Do you have any pictures of the tank (that the seller took)?

Sounds like a loach to me due to the pointy nose, maybe a Clown loach?

I hate working from descriptions. If it looks anything like the fish below, then it is a farlowella of some kind:
