Hi, just considering some cherry shrimp for in my community tank to liven up the tank bottom. Living on the bottom of this tank there are also 3 bumblebee catfish, two of them are about 2 inches and the other about 3 inches. Just wondering if they will live happily with cherry shrimp or will the shrimp irritate the catfish by nipping them and trying to get in there hides under the bogwood or vise versa will the catfish have a go at eating the shrimp? At the moment the catfish have presented no problems with my fully grown endlers.

Any info much appreciated!

I have no experience with bumblebee catfish or cherry shrimp though if your catfish are anything like my yellow-belly they will probably eat the cherry shrimp if they're small enough to fit in their mouth. As the catfish has quite the powerful digestive system I doubt the exoskeleton of the shrimp will matter much.

I can inform you, through personal experience, that crawfish and catfish do not mix as the crawfish can inflict some nasty wounds on the catfish with their claws.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Delta,

I may keep some shrimp in a separate tank and maybe try just one or two in my community tank and see how it goes, I can always removed them and but them back in the 40L

Only put shrimp in with fish that have small mouths, but not fish with delicate fins.

I think the Bumblee Cats get to 5/6 inches depending on species.

The shrimps will definately be at risk as the Cats grow.
