great little work horses I have had one for years they eat nothing but algae and all I do is move it around whenever I get an algae outbreak in another tank and it chomps the lot till the tank is sparkling!
As far as I am aware syno catfish and khuli loaches do not touch algae so not sure who recommended them? ottos will and so will bristlenose catfish especially when they're young but there is one critter I highly recommend for any type of algae and that is a nerite snail

you have a 50/50 chance of picking one! I think females may be slightly larger than males but it's not easy to see if they are all the same age and not fully mature, the eggs that she lays will not hatch though so you will not be overun by them, even though I wish I was! as they are not easy to come by and can be quite expensive at times, they need a special salt water phase for their eggs to hatch successfully and this is not easy to recreate at home, the eggs the female lays are like small white sesame seeds that she scatters around the ornaments and occasionally on the glass, they are quite difficult to remove but I wouldn't be bothered by them, they do disappear eventually
