Is there any danger to a cat drinking out of my aquarium?

My cat does this too and I shoo him away because I'm not sure if it will be ok for him either lol, I add all sorts of fertilisers and easycarbo to my water and wouldn't like to drink it myself but the fish are OK ?

I dunno lol

No, it's not bad for your cat; as long as you're not medicating the tank.

I'm not so much worried about my cat as I am about the tank. If there is any bacteria or something that the cat can add to the water

I've never heard of any such thing :)

In fact, my best friend left a fry tank set up for her old cat to drink from, as she's a bit of a fussy cat now (she is 23!), and it's a perfectly healthy tank; nothing in it except some Java moss, of course!

My dog likes that too but thankfully she isn't big enough to reach any higher than the side of the tank.  But she loves licking my hands after I've had them inside the tank or drink from the bucket/containers where I washed the filter media. I think all bacteria/spores are just floating around in the air so we can't really prevent anything by washing hands or stopping the poor cat from her favourite drink

I think they love the fishy smell. My cat was obsessed with fish food and blood worms in particular and my dog ate a pack of hikari sinking wafers and a container with dried daphnia only recently.

My cat won't drink tap water, either drinks from puddles in the garden but prefers buckets of old tank water post water change. Doesn't seem to have done him any harm.

He's otherwise a law unto himself. He's an ex farm cat and lives by his own rules.

Actually she's rather on the plump side, to put it politely!

I think most animals (certainly all the ones I've known!) would rather drink anything than tap water! I caught my dog licking rain off the patio chairs a week or two ago

He's also eaten a whole bag of algae wafers this week that I hadn't even opened

They surely love "dirty" water. My dog also regularly polishes the trays of the plant pots when I overwater them depsite her bowl being full of fresh water :)

Ha, ha. You should not need to worry about opening the bag for them. They figure it out :) Mine stole the fish food out of a handbag which was fully closed. Then she opened the bag of fish food as well without a problem, totally a professionalist.

Aren't you worried about her eating the fish?

that was exactly what I was thinking.

I'm assuming this is a freshwater tank? If it was drinking from a saltwater tank then that probably isn't a good idea.
Tanks with very extreme pH may not be very good for your cat either. By that I mean 4 or 9 but I doubt your tank that low/high anyway.

I had that problem I even had a problem with my snake getting into the water fish were always fine though I got a id to cover the water and no more problem.
