does anyone have an idea of what plants work well in 'carpeting' the substrate of a tank. I've got java moss but it's a bit erm .... poofy for want of a better word! lol. It doesn't really like staying attached to the bottom!

Any ideas would be appreciated!!

Thanks

It depends what type/level of lighting you have and what substrate (sand, gravel etc) and whether you use CO2. Many carpeting plants prefer high light, CO2 and decent fertilisation though some (like u.gramnifolia) can do well in lower light tanks so I am led to believe.

my substrat is quite fine gravel and under that I've got quite a decent layer of this plant fertiliser stuff (it's like small black balls which you're supposed to plant the plants into - do you know what I'm talking about!?).

I don't use CO2.

And I'm not sure what lighting I have - I'm really a bit stupid when it comes to all the technical stuff! :S lol. erm ... it seems pretty bright - it's brighter than the lights in my other tanks! although I suppose that's not particularly helpful.

Sorry - I know this isnt the most useful of information!

The other thing is that my tank's quite heavily planted so I'm probably looking for something that isn't going to suffer by being in shade.

Thanks
