Carpet plants with corys

There are a couple issues here. First, provided there are open areas of sand, having carpet plants in other areas is not a problem per say. However, cories do dig into the sand to feed, and I am regularly having to replant my chain swords because a shrimp pellet or bug bite gets pushed in around the crown of the plant during the cories feeding frenzy and the plants slowly get uprooted. I've used pebbles to help with this, generally effective, but not something that would be practical with true carpet plants.

Another related issue is light. Most carpet plants need brighter light, and this is not favourable to cories.

Most cory habitats by far have no substrate plants, just sand and dried leaves and wood and branches.

thanks that help a lot

Yes. Corys do best in sands. They prefer it. In aquariums that have gravel areas and also sand areas you never see the Corys going over the gravel. Now,if its a gravel only aquarium they have no choice. Not much change in carpet aquariums...they will hunt for food if forced...but otherwise they would ignore the plants if possible.
