about 3 months ago i bought 5 khuli loachs after about 1 week 4 went missing as it was quite well planted i didnt take much notice any way just opened my filter (external filter) as i couldnt get it to work after transporting fish from one tank to another i open it up thinking it might be bloacked.

was about to close up and try again but i thought i'd look see if there much rubbish at the bottam to my surprise there where 3 of the loaches. i remember buying five so started to look though my filter and found another on half way up between two pieces of filter sponge.

just thought id let you know

but how would they live? from what i can think any excess food from the tank? they look really skinny as well. so what the best way to feed them? isolate them a feed the a little bit at a time?

Those are all low protein foods depending on what flake you use, but flake food floats where as khuli loach are bottom feeders.

JMC High protein pellets would be ideal along as JMC catfish pellets. Becareful how much you feed though with these as they are high protein and oily foods the can poulte the water easily if there in a small tank and some food goes uneaten.

If there only in the bath at the moment and you haven't got the equipment you need to QT them properly just put them back in your main tank and feed them up in there.

They are naughty like that, hiding and re-appearing somewhere odd months later. They do ok with the sinking pellets actually, the ones the plecos and catfish like, so try that. I would honestly just put them back in the main tank and make sure you replace the filter with one that doesn't have big openings for them to squeeze through! Put caves in if you haven't got any as they do like to hide.

ive cut 6 pieces of tube up and put it in the tank for them to hide.

looks like im not going to be able to get the glassware i was after anymore :-(

i will probably put a foot of a stocking over the inlet like i do for my breeding tank :good:

thanks

Same thing happend to me last week. Found 4 in my filter. I didnt think they could fit through the intake. Now I put a peice of nylon stocking over the intake.

I dont realy see what that has to do with it.

I have a Eheim Pro2 2026 on 1 of my tanks which contained khulis and never had a problem with them going up the intake pipe.

nylon will clog quickly, your best off using some course foam to put over the intak pipe. when my Firemouths bred i put some course sponge with the intake to stop fry going up, worked a treat without clogging up the filter quickly.
