Fish Crazy
any of you have carnivorous plants that eat insects in your aquarium? that would be cool to keep the insect level low in my room lol..
Chris said:I have a large collection of carnivorous plants in my greenhouse (my other hobby to fish) and there are a few aquatic ones. They are called bladderworts (Latin Utricularia) and they look similar to hornwort in growth but have small bladders along the stem which open at lightening speeds to eat daphnia and other small water creatures. they are not very easy to keep in an aquarium as they like extremely acidic water, although you might be lucky with Utricularia gibba, which is the easiest. A small unheated tank with a 1 inch layer of peat on the bottom is much more likely to produce a fascinating and healthy plant.
The cobra lily is a pitcher plant that lures insects up through a nectar 'tongue' into the roof of the plant where there is no escape. It then falls to its death in a thick liquid in the bottom. They also need acid soils and it must be permanantly waterlogged.
