I'm getting a CO2 injector soon so it won't really matter much, but I was wondering about this. Would carbonated water such as seltzer aid in plant growth in a planted tank? One of the things I was wondering about though would be the rapid change in PH if any was added.

Err, not entirely sure how you keep things stable and you'd need a heck of a lot of water! I think you'd be changing the entire tank daily!

I've heard that for small tanks adding plain carbonated water is quite effective. I haven't tried it myself so no first hand experience. Try it, perhaps on a tank with no fish, see what it does to the water ph, hardness, levels etc. and see how much CO2 the tank registers after a given dose. I can see it being quite expensive unless you have a cheap supply of soda water.

What about using a soda stream, if you can still get them. I don't even know how expensive the CO2 refills were.
