Hi all , is carbon really needed in a tank?

Not really, but it does absorb chemicals and can stop your tank smelling (although it shouldn't) It's useful for after medication as it can take out the remaining medication faster than water changes alone.

Surely a 100% water change will remove the meds quicker than carbon?

I suppose so but that may not be practical for some fish tanks
