Hi everyone

Just a little worry here, im pretty sure people have said to me before that crabon takes away the colour of blackwater biotopes and reverses all the affects your trying to create.

Carbon being in part of the filter media in my new filter thats jsut arrived so im not sure whether to start it up????

Cheers

Sam

You only really need carbon to remove meds, I dont run any in my filters unless I need it, so just take it out.

most filters come with the ability to use a carbon as well as "normal" filter medium.

save the carbon for when you need it. It wont go out of date.

Hey

Erm, ive managed to get almost all of it out, will it matter if theres a bit left in?????

Thanks

Sam

Hey

the filter is up and running well now

Can anyone tell me how long the filter media will last for

Thew instructions say 4-6 months, but that cant be right can it?!

Until it is literally falling apart, changing filter media is a very bad idea. Clean it in a bucket full of FISH TANK water to get some of the gunk off, but never chuck it away or wash it in tap water :good:

Cheers ace

Maybe ill do that with my fluvals too then

Its jsut that in the biotope a lot of peat gets into them so they become useless after a shorter ammount of time unfortunatley

Sam

If the media is (as Ace says) starting to fall apart, replace small parts of it - not all it once or you'll need to cycle your tank again.
