Carbon In Filter

As the header suggests, I have a small internal filter, one side is coarse white filter sponge and the other side is coarse black carbon sponge, do I need the carbon sponge or can I just use more filter sponge ?
Any correspondence greatly appreciated

you don't need carbon in your filter, i'd swap it for more biomedia. it's a good idea to have some carbon though, to clear up any meds you might need to use.

you could just leave the carbon in the filter as it will act as biomedia. carbon leeching anything back into the tank is a myth so don't worry about that
