Hello dudes, well its been about a month to two months and still cant get hold of any brackish fish, at all, none what so ever. The LFS keeps ordering them but none arrive in the delivery. So I think I might scrap it, but I dont want to because I am tired of keeping the same old fish I want something different, but at the same time I am tired of having an empty tank lol. What to do.....

Does anyone else have this problem with brackish fish. The reason I wanted brackish, was something different and also I could venture into salt water without the full marine setup (which is now looking like less hassle).

How big is the tank?

For a start, you might try some brackish-marines. The dog-face puffer is an excellent fish, and does well at SG 1.010 and is nicely behaved in community tanks. You can often buy them very small (around 5 cm long) and then sell it on if its gets too large (they reach about 20-30 cm in aquaria). There are several other brackish-marine puffers sold as marines; consult the Aqualog Pufferfish book for details. Other brackish-marine fish include several snappers, a few damsels (including sargeant majors), stripeys, batfish, and a few other things.

On the freshwater side of things, mollies, guppies, and several cichlids are tolerant of marine and brackish water. I've listed the brackish and marine cichlids elsewhere on this subforum, so having a look through past messages may help.

Cheers, Neale

ok nice one neale, you are the saviour of the brackish forum. I will have a look , I thought I was very limited to what I could have.

My tank is 45 imperial gallons (vision 180)

so you can't even find mollys then :p

seriously, sorry to read this it must be very annoying to say the least.

Oh, and one other thing. Why not post in the Buy/Sell forum?

Given how many people get here and find out their tropical are actually brackish water fish, I'd assume there's quite a lot of people with unwanted brackish species. Perhaps you can go rescue these fish?

Cheers, Neale

PS. Do spend some time on Fishbase. There are lots of catfish, barbs, spiny eels, and all kinds of fishes you wouldn't expect to be from brackish water but actually are. OK, these tend to need low-end conditions, but still, at SG 1.003-1.005, you could still mix with figure-8s, gobies, etc.

Magic cheers for the help, I might get mollies too. I am away down to the lfs today to see of he has any marine fish that will do brackish so fingers crossed.....

Right my fingers are severley uncrossed now, I cant get any brackish fish at all not even semi ones, so I have changed the tank over to house cichlids (mbuna and malawi).

Cheers for all the help and info, if anything I have learnt a lot about brackish fish. So thanks again now I am off to the cichlid forum.
