There is a gap at top I might change the lid but not sure what to get.

Did you take out the log and look inside with bright light?

Also look inside the plants. My pleco hides in there. I’m sure you have done all of this. Did you lift the decor?

My lid has a gap too. They’d really have to hit it just right to jump out though.

If that decoration is hollow its possible he got underneath and went inside. Check there thoroughly.
