Hi Guys

I have just fitted some cold cathode tubes to my tank for the night time and was wondering how i would go about taking a picture with such low light settings.

Cheers

Change your ISO setting to the highest it can go, switch to Aperature priority mode and select the largest aperature (it will be the smallest number eg. F2.8 or 3.5 or thereabouts) and dont use any zoom, move the camera closer instead.

You would probably need to use a tripod or rest the camera on some stable surface to get a sharp shot.

When you raise the ISO on a digital camera you are just boosting the power to the CCD, the higher voltages together with the lower signal (less light) creates digital noise. Its worse if you underexpose and then try to brighten the picture. Its a problem with all cameras but less noticable with digital SLR's because their 'pixels' on the CCD are larger and more light hits them.

You can get free software to clean up the noise at http://www.neatimage.com/ just make sure you run the full photo straight from the camera through the software as you must have an area of the photo with no detail to analyse.
