ok so i went to walmart to pick up a few things and (as usual) i stop over and check out the fish. they have these white tetras that look like see through angel fish and OH MY GOD! walmart should NOT be allowed to sell fish anymore! those fish had soooooo much ick on them they were twitching! the ick was so bad you could see it bc the dots were HUGE! Im talking gravel sized ick! i felt so bad for those poor fish. i wanted to buy those fish and just put them out of their misery! unfortunately i did not have enough money to buy them all. has anyone else seen anything else like this? what should i do? these poor fish. if you saw it you would cry! im going to take a picture of them and post it on my myspace. walmart needs to do something! if you want to see those poor fish or my tank, the link for my myspace is on my profile.

As hard as it is please don't buy those fish or any others like them. In places like WalMart they care more about their profits than anything else. If you buy sick fish it only perpetuates the sale of sick fish. WalMart will continue to carry and sell fish until enough people stop buying them, they only care about profits. A better opinion would be to complain to management of that store about their poor fish section. That is the only way to get immediate change.

Agreed, a complaint to the manager, along with a print out explaining what ick is and how to treat it would be the best way forwards.
And if they ignore you, perhaps try going above their heads. Or even your local council? Not sure exactly how it works in the USA, but if we phone our city council they can point us in the direction of the animal welfare people (if you can't find the number online)

in the usa we have an organization called the spca. they rescue animals from abusive owners and off the street. but im not sure theyd give a hoot about some fish. even though it is animal cruelty. it just makes me mad bc these poor conditions the fish are in. it doesnt seem they care about quality as they say they do. i do plan on talking to a manager but its going to be a bigger manager then the ones ive talked to before. has anyone else seen this happen before? in the usa and other places?

If you want what is best for the fish, then don't buy them. If the shop looses the stock, then they wont buy anymore in.
whats really disturbing is that they have a dead fish in with the sick fish! and its been there for over a week! i think ive been misunderstood, i didnt want to buy the fish to keep them. i simply felt bad for the fish and wished i could buy them to put them to sleep and end their suffering. im going to talk to a district manager and if that doesnt work then im going to the authorities bc this animal cruelty must stop! and its not just the tetra tank...its every tropical tank!

i think the point they are making is that if you went and bought them, even as a mercy buy,thats demand, there for more will be shipped in to be sold. if nobody buys them, they are not selling, therefore less will be re stocked
in essence, you are saving more fish by not buying them. i know its hard to walk away from sick fish, trust me i know, but report it to the authorities and they will take action.
take pics and descriptions of the sick fish, what ailment they have, will make it easier and they should act quicker
